At the seminar, Jia Wenjian extended his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the CUPL's visit to the Beijing Foreign Studies University and hosting this event for undergraduate students of the university. He said that on the basis of the cooperation agreement, the two universities are expected to jointly promote the comprehensive training of foreign-related legal talents and provide high-quality talents for the national political, diplomatic and legal undertakings.
Chang Baoguo first thanked the Beijing Foreign Studies University for the thoughtful organization of this visit. He said,
“in the face of today's increasingly complex and volatile international situation, the country attaches great importance to the rule of law in relation to foreign affairs, we should speed up the strategic layout of the foreign-related legal work and promote the construction of our country’s extra-territorial applicable legal system. However, relevant data show that there are only 7,000 lawyers who are skilled in foreign-related business, and only 300 of them can handle cases independently in international institutions such as the WTO. The lack of a Chinese face and voice in international organizations around the world makes it difficult to meet the needs of today's national development strategies and society. Therefore, it is a top priority to cultivate the foreign-related legal talents that the country is in urgent need of.”
Chang expressed that this articulation programme of Foreign-Related Legal Personnel Master Pass-Through Training jointly established by the China University of Political Science and Law, a strong law school ranking A+ in law, and the Beijing Foreign Studies University, a strong language school ranking A+ in foreign language, would definitely produce A++ level of high-quality foreign-related legal personnel who are proficient in both the language and the law.
After that, members of the CUPL delegation briefed the year 2020 graduating undergraduates from all language courses of BFS on the admission policies and plans for students with exemption of examinations, as well as the features of the promgramme of Internationalised Law Experimental Class of the School of International Law and such promgramme of the College of Comparative Law (with national law orientation) of CUPL in terms of enrollment and training, and conducted Q&A and exchanges with the students.
