In order to improve the physical fitness of students and enrich their campus life, the College organised a student delegation to participate in the badminton competition for the University’s Postgraduate Sports Month on Haidian Campus on 20 April, 2024.
The competition was divided into five sports, namely Women's Singles, Men’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Each event was scored on a 21-point scale, capped at 30 points. The participants were Chang Jia’ning, Lin Hongwei, Wang Zhaoyi, Geng Chang, Sun Yuqing, Mo Qingwen, Hou Xiaolin and Liu Yiman (on behalf of Zhang Ziqing).
In the group stage, the system of three wins in five events and one win in one game in each event was adopted. The competition officially began at 09:00 am. In the course of the competition, the students of the delegation fought hard. Even though the number of students was not enough to rotate, they still did their best to concentrate 100 per cent of their attention, fully demonstrating their strength and level. Each time the full-strength smash, the key saves and the tacit cooperation all gathered on the field as splendid moments. The players adhered to the principle of ‘friendship first, competition second’ and actively participated in the competition, while establishing a deep friendship with the opponents.
After a day of intense competition, due to the small difference in the net score, the delegation won the fifth place (a total of seven teams in the same group) and unfortunately did not reach the second stage. This was the best that they could have been achieved considering that there were no rotations and transfers under the same conditions. The players were full of hope for next competition.
This activity not only set up a platform for badminton enthusiasts in the college to exchange skills, but also allowed them to relax in the intense academic life, playing a role in rallying each other and enhancing friendship. They won unanimous high praise from the opponents in the same group, the executive reference committee and the organizing committee of the game.
