The Institute of Sino-German Law (Chinesisch-Deutsches Institut für Rechtswissenschaft)

It was first founded in November 2002 by CUPL. In 2004, CUPL, Freiburg University, Munich University, K?ln University, Frankfurt University, Hamburg University signed an agreement to establish a Sino-German Institute of Law. Since 2014, Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin and University of Münster joined the agreement as it was renewed.  It is an integrated teaching and research institution combining graduate education, scientific research, international cooperation and exchange and social services.


Ever since 2004, the Institute of Sino-German Law began to admit postgraduate students focusing on comparative law in 2004. Since its founding, the Institute has admitted and trained over 500 students, including LLM students, doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows as well as exchange students from German partner universities. It has sent over 200 students with full scholarship to the German universities to study for a LLM degree in accordance with the aforementioned agreement.


The graduates from the Institute are proficient in Chinese and German Law and most of them are capable of using German language at work. They are often employed in areas such as legal practice, governmental institutions and universities. The Institute has attained wide recognition in both China and Germany for scholarship in German law and comparative law.
