Jean Monnet Programme by Prof. Zhang Tong concluded

Jean Monnet Programme, launched and executed by Prof. Zhang Tong from the EU Law Institute of College of Comparative Law, concluded successfully on 26 Nov, 2014.


The aim of Jean Monnet Programme is to fund higher education institutions to promote the teaching, research and discussion on European integration, thus enhancing the relationship and popular and cultural dialogue between the EU and other parts of the world.



Under such framework, the China University of Political Science and Law carried out the European Module of the Programme. Vice President Prof. Zhang Baosheng was the coordinating director, Prof. Zhang Tong was in charge of its approving and execution. A/Prof. Zhang Xuezhe and A/Prof. Xu Yan from the College of Comparative Law and Prof. Zhang Shujing from Business School were also involved in this project.


During the three-year programme execution since July 2013, the module strictly implemented the plan and overfulfilled the goal. Its main achievements include: 1) exploited new courses for the EU Law, perfecting and characterizing the University's EU Law curriculum system. The project members established two new modules Convergence Theory and Methodology of European Law and European Union Economic and Trade Law for both undergrads and postgrads; 2) developed more academic collaboration platforms, further strengthening cooperation and exchange with higher education, academic research institutions and practice departments from home and abroad. The Programme invited famous scholars and experts from Germany, Netherlands and Taiwan for 9 themed lectures; 3) captured hot issues in the study of current European integration and the development of the EU Law, resulting in 5 monographs for Jean Monnet Programme Book Series. They are: the Study of Integration of European Private Law by Zhang Tong, the Theory and Practice of European Company Law by Zhang Xuezhe, the Euro: Break a Blockade by Zhang Shujing, the Study of EU Ombudsman System by Yuan Gang, and the EU Economic and Trade Law by Zhang Tong, Liu Xu, Xu Yan and Deng Dexiong.
