At the invitation of the German Federal Judicial/Consumer Protection Department (Bundesministerium der Justiz und für Verbraucherschutz/BMJV), 13 year 2013 and 2014 entering postgraduate students who are currently exchanging at 7 German partner universities (University of Freiburg, Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin, University of Frankfurt, University of Munich, University of Hamburg, University of Kohl, and University of Munster) attended a 5-day tour themed Legislative Procedure of Germany and the European Union Law Transform to State Law in Berlin, Germany during 3 Nov to 4 Dec, 2015.
The tour included visiting the German Federal Judicial/Consumer Protection Department (BMJV), the German Federal Bundestag (lower house of parliament), the German Federal Bundesrat (upper house of parliament), the German Federal Bar Association, the Berlin Trial Court and the Berlin Cathedral.
Ms. Petra Rechlin from the Cooperation Department of BMJV, Director of the Middle East & Asia-Africa-Latin America Affairs of the German Academic Exchange Center (DAAD) Ms. Brigitte Basu and Dr. Alexandra Nikolova from the University of Freiburg attended the whole tour with the students.
In the BMJV, the students participated in a series of seminars on BMJV's Responsibility in Legislative Procedure, the Significance of Fundamental Rights in Censorship Laws and the Relationship between the EU Law and German Law.
During the visit in the Federal Bundestag, the students had a direct view on the development history of the German democratic constitutionalism, the function of the Bundestag and its working procedure. In the Berlin Cathedral, the docent provided the students with more insight of the legislative procedure of the German Federation as the Cathedral is a base for the procedure. In the Bar Association, the Manager Mr. Frank Johnigk introduced the newly-established lawyer-judge communication system to the students.
It is worthy to note that for the first time the tour added the activity of sitting in on a trail at the Berlin Trail Court. The students also had an opportunity to exchange with the Chief-Justice Mr. Wagner after.
At the end of the tour, Mr. Daniel Zimmermann from the DAAD Capital Office and Ms. Brigitte Basu held an informal talk with the students, sharing opinions on studying and living in Germany.
