At the invitation of the Fourth Court of Civil Trial of Supreme People's Court, Yang Mingquan from the Administration Office led 19 students from the College of Comparative Law attended its public retrial about Archangelos Gabrielon case on 7 July, 2016.
This salvage contract dispute was between the Nanhai Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport of PRC and a Greek company Archangelos Investments E.N.E. The five-hour long court proceedings were divided into three stages: courtroom investigation, crossexamination, and forensic argument. The students gained first-hand observation and witnessed the trial process of this meaningful case in the maritime trial area. They had a direct feeling on juridical practice and the development of China’sthe rule of law.
Under the circumstance that there are existential uncertainty on certain key issues of the application of International Convention on Salvage 1989 at home and abroad, the Supreme People's Court for the very first time made it clear to the public on the specific application of the Convention related articles in China’s laws, as well as providing the international judicial circles a reference case.
