The Institute for the Laws of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions was established in May 2010. It plays an active role in facilitating the cooperation between Mainland China and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions including academic exchange, talent training, program research and consulting services, which promotes communication and integration in legal field and constitutes a research platform of high-level, so as to expedite the development and prosperity of comparative law. Most of the members of the Institute are the teaching staff from the College of Comparative Law, while scholars from related research fields and experts from legal practice are also engaged. Their research area ranges from jurisprudence to law theory, civil law, economic law, social law and administrative law. In recent years, the Institute has hosted or participated in more than 20 research projects, among which the project "Autonomy and Development: Macao Legal Reform Research under the Background of Regional Integration" in 2011 and "The Research on the Coordination of Regional Tax System" in 2013 have received favorable reviews, combining the theoretical research and the actual needs and providing legal support for the sound development of regional economy. For the time being, the Institute has formed an academic pyramid with the young and mid-aged researchers as backbones and built up important academic influence so as to furnish the authorities with policy suggestions and consulting advice as a high-end think tank. It has been striving to be the best institute for legal research, legal culture exchange, legal talent training and legal services provider in the field of law of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan regions.
