The College of Comparative Law and its seven German partner law schools, the University of Freiburg, the Humboldt University of Berlin, the University of Frankfurt, the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, the University of Hamburg, the University of Cologne and the University of Münstershe jointly hosted the Alumni Forum of the Sino-German Institute of Law on Xueyuanlu Campus on the afternoon of 22 June, 2021.
The forum adopted a combined form of online and on-site, inviting a total of 16 experts from China and Germany, focused on the Chinese Civil Code, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. The conference was presided over by Prof. Xie Libin, Associate Dean of the College & Dean of the Sino-German Institute of Law.
Dean of the College Prof. Xie Zhiyong delivered the opening remarks. He said that the theme of this forum was the recent hot words which highlight academic taste, academic sensitivity and expectation for the future development of law, and this kind of forward-looking research and prospects for the future reflect that the alumni of the Sino-German Institute of Law has a high academic level and have exerted a more important influence in China and Germany.
The meeting was divided into two sessions.
The first session Agency, Ownership and Security in the Application of the Chinese Civil Code was chaired by Rolf Stürner, Professor Emeritus of University of Freiburg. A/Prof. Chi Ying from the College, Prof. Yuan Zhijie from the Law School of Beijing Normal University and Assistant Professor Chen Dachang from the Law School of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law delivered keynote speeches respectively on the Typological Analysis of Duty Agency in the Civil Code, the State Ownership in the Civil Code and the Chattel Security System in the Civil Code. Prof. Uwe Blaurock from the University of Freiburg, Prof. Hinrich Julius from the University of Hamburg and Prof. Helmut Kohl from the University of Frankfurt gave comments on the reports.
The second session Personal Information Protection in the Age of Big Data was chaired by Prof. Christian Walter from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Assistant Prof. Zhe Yuanfei from the Law School of Zhejiang University, A/Prof. Zhang Hualing from the Law School of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics Law and Dr. Li Hai from the School of Civil and Commercial Law of Southwest University of Political Science and Law contributed their views on the China's Practice of Administrative Process Automation, the Foreign National Security Review in the Digital Age: A Comparative Analysis Based on the EU's Foreign Investment Review Regulation and China's Foreign Investment Law and the Protection of Personal Information in the Civil Code in the Big Data Era. Director of the Institute of European Law of the College Prof. Zhang Tong, Prof. Moritz Hennemann from Passau University and Dr. Eike Frenzel from University of Freiburg participated in the discussion.
At the end of the meeting, Xie Libin made a summary. He expressed his gratitude to the participants of the meeting and wished the alumni of both China and Germany side to achieve satisfactory results in their respective posts.
