Carlos Larea, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ecuador to China, awarded A/Prof. Pan Deng from the College of Comparative Law the National Order of Merit of Ecuador on behalf of the President Lenín Moreno on Embassy of Ecuador in China on 5 February, 2021.
The protocol officer read the Executive Order 1192, countersigned by President Lenín Moreno and Foreign Minister Luis Gallegos on 17 November, 2020. In his executive order, the President spoke highly of Mr. Pan Deng's consistent commitment to promoting wide-ranging exchanges between Ecuador and China in the academic, diplomatic and political fields, and to promoting the development of bilateral relations from multiple perspectives, which has promoted the spread of culture and mutual understanding between the two countries and benefited the two peoples. In recognition of his selfless and efficient service to society and his outstanding contribution to the close relations between China and Ecuador, Mr. Pan Deng was awarded the National Order of Merit at the knighthood level.
Ambassador Larea, on behalf of President Moreno, awarded a medal and a certificate to Pan Deng and extended his heartfelt congratulations on his achievement. He said that it is an important tradition of the Ecuadorian government to award national medals to international personalities who have made outstanding contribution to the friendship between the two countries through executive decrees issued by the President. “At present, Ecuador-China relations are very friendly and smooth. We need not only exchanges and cooperation between governments, but also cultural and academic exchanges between peoples. Mr. Pan Deng is an example in this regard. He has made positive contribution to the communication and cooperation between the two countries. He has been recognized and commended by the Ecuadorian president.”Larea hoped that more people will continue to work for the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
In his remarks, Pan Deng thanked President Moreno for his recognition during the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Ecuador. He briefly introduced the work he and his colleagues had done in promoting academic exchanges, personnel training, policy communication and people-to-people friendship between China and Latin America. He said the honor belongs to those who have worked hard for the friendship. He will take this as a continuous driving force, continue to deepen the friendship between the young people of China-Latin America and China-Ecuador in the training of foreign-related talents, promote social and cultural exchanges between the two sides through academic communication, unite the academic and think tank communities of the two sides to expand the scope of dialogue and consensus and make their own efforts to carry out fruitful cooperation between the two countries and China and Latin America in various fields and at various levels.
After the ceremony, the two sides took a photo and raised a glass to celebrate.
