Director of the Institute of European Law Prof. Zhang Tong delivered a speech. Newly-approved master’s supervisors and newly-appointed teachers participated in the discussion. The meeting was chaired by the Director of the College Administration Office Liu Ming.
At the beginning of the seminar, Liu Ming introduced the main background of the meeting. The purpose of this meeting was to study and implement in depth the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on postgraduate education and the spirit of the National Conference on Postgraduate Education in accordance with the requirements of the university, so as to raise the level of the construction of the College’s postgraduate supervisor faculty, strengthening the supervisors’ responsibility of educating students and implementing that the supervisors are the first responsible person of the training of postgraduate students.
Fei Anling then started a panel discussion with two questions to seek the opinions of the participating teachers on postgraduate training and the integration of new teachers. Teachers at the meeting fully exchanged views on identity transformation, individual betterment, curriculum design, teacher-student exchanges, thesis guidance and other aspects, and put forward the corresponding confusion and problems. According to her teaching experience over 30 years and her supervising experience for over 200 postgraduates, Fei put forward four suggestions and requirements for teaching and postgraduate training, focusing on four key words “love, feeling, thinking and moving”.
Zhang Tong shared her experience and advice on the positioning and role change of new teachers. She pointed out that the primary task of new teachers is to adapt to the work environment and the assessment mechanism. First, they should decide their research interests and territories as early as possible by balancing recent and traditional research focus. Second, they should place a high value on enhancing teaching skills. Third, they should actively participate in the activities organized by the University and the Colleges to create opportunities to mobilize their own academic resources.
