Professor Salvatore Mancuso, Chair of Comparative Law Center of Faculty of Law of Cape Town University, and Professor Ignazio Castellucci gave a lecture on Harmonization of Business Laws in Africa and Its Advantages for Chinese Investments in Africa to the students on Xueyuanlu Campus on the evening of 27 May, 2015. Dean of the College of Comparative Law Professor Gao Xiang moderated the lecture.
Prof. Salvatore Mancuso examined the main attempts to harmonize business law in Africa, with particular reference to the OHADA system of harmonized business law, explaining its features, peculiarities and challenges. Then, he showed the advantages that the system can have for the Chinese investments in Africa, considered the massive presence of Chinese business activities in the African continent.
After that, Prof. Ignazio Castellucci explained how legal globalization is formed under the circumstance of economic and cultural globalization. The benchmarks include the globalizationof law, the globalization of legal culture, the international systems, legal system standards, cross-country law firms in international financial institutions. He also discussed the influences on law by political elements such as cooperation between countries and international aid. At last, Prof. Castellucci analyzed current situation in China, especially the policy support from Chinese government to local enterprises.
