The Chinese version of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba was launched at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in China, jointly organised by the National People's Congress of Cuba and the Chinese Procuratorial Press on 17 April, 2024.
This book is the first foreign translation authorised by the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Cuba since the promulgation of the current constitution in 2019. A/Prof. from the College undertook the translation of the book.
More than 120 Chinese and Cuban dignitaries, including guests from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Supreme People's Court, Supreme People's Procuratorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Department of Central Committee of CPC, Office for International Military Cooperation of Central Military Commission, All-China Federation of Trade Unions, Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Western Returned Scholars Association (Overseas-educated Scholars Association of China), well-known research institutions and universities, as well as the press and publication industry, attended the launch ceremony. Mr. Juan Raudel Riselle Collazo, Deputy Attorney General of the Supreme Prosecutor's Office, offered congratulations on behalf of the Cuban authorities at the ceremony.
On behalf of Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National People's Congress of Cuba & President of the Council of State of Cuba, Mr. Homero Acosta Alvarez, the Secretary-General of the Congress & the Council, congratulated on the publication of the Chinese version of the country's constitution and gave special thanks to Pan Deng for his “hands-on” contribution to the book in a video message recorded from the rostrum of the Chamber of the Congress. Acosta said that the publication of the book highlighted the special friendly relations between the two countries and was an important result of the exchange of beneficial experiences in socialist rule of law.
Mr. Teng Jiguo, a member of the Party Leadership Group of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China & Director of the Political Department of the Procuratorate, was asked by the Prosecutor General Mr. Ying Yong, to congratulate the book on behalf of the Procuratorate. He pointed out that the publication of the book is not only an important result of cultural exchanges between the two countries, but also a strong testimony to the friendly cooperation between the judicial community of the two countries.
Cuba's ambassador to China, Mr. Alberto Blanco, noted that Cuba and China work closely together in various areas, including the legislature. He said that the publication of the Chinese version of the Constitution is a valuable asset for the new generation of the two countries and fully reflects the invaluable friendly relations between the two parties, the two countries and the people.
Mr. Zhu Jianhua, President of the China Procuratorial Press, introduced the book on behalf of the translation and publishing team. Mr.Qiao Xiaoyang, former under-secretary-general of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China & former chairman of the Law Committee of the Congress, Mr. Zhang Tuo, former China’s Ambassador to Cuba, Vice-President of the China-Latin and Caribbean Friendship Association and author of the book, and Pan Deng, the translator of the book, Director of the China-Cuba Friendship Association & Secretary-General of the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin Branch of Western Returned Scholars Association, also gave speeches one after the other.
At the event, a commemorative cover issued by the Cuban Embassy in China was also held to mark the 5th anniversary of the promulgation of the current Constitution of the Republic of Cuba and the publication of the Chinese version.
