Professor Wang Hainan from the Faculty of Law of National Chengchi University gave a lecture to the students on the Chief Justice’s Interpretation and Amendment of Family Law on Xueyuanlu Campus on the morning of 16 Nov, 2017.

The lecture was moderated by A/Prof. Xu Yan, the Director of the Institute for the law of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions of the College, and the commentator was Prof. Jin Mei from the Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School of CUPL. 

A/Prof. Xu Yan first put forward a question about how to define the conception of family to the legal extent by setting off an example of how charge a family for their income tax for individuals, and then introduced the theme of the lecture.

Prof. Wang Hainan started with introducing the political background of the Chief Justice’s Interpretation in Taiwan region to the students. Then he talked about the implementation of family law from Qing Dynasty to the period of the Republic of China in Chinese Mainland. Later, he used several classic cases and Chief Justice’s interpretation (No.242, No.362 and No.552 ) to help students better understand the changes of the family law on divorce and child of illegitimate birth in Taiwan regions during last decades.

After the three hour lecture, Prof. Jin Mei presented impressive comments on Prof. Wang’s speech. During the Q & A, the students also raised several questions on the relationship between customs and laws and the latest draft legislation by the Commission of Legislative Affairs of the NPC Standing Committee.
